Dr. Kim’s expertise includes retinal tears and detachments including complex retinal detachments, macular degeneration, macular holes and puckers, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular diseases, dislocated intraocular lenses, complex cataract, ocular trauma, uveitis, and retinopathy of prematurity.

He is a board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, and also an active member of the American Society of Retina Specialists and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Kim has authored multiple scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented at numerous meetings including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, and Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

Dr. Kim is very active in education, previously serving as Chief Resident, Associate Director of Ophthalmic Education, and Assistant Director of the Ocular Trauma Service at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. During his retina fellowship at the Barnes Retina Institute, he was bestowed the Golden Apple Teaching Award in the Department of Ophthalmology at Washington University in St. Louis. He currently teaches at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary where he is a Clinical Assistant Professor. Additionally, he serves as Chief of Ophthalmology and Director of Pediatric Retina at Northwest Community Hospital.
